Rules
One page, no small print. Taking rank #1 currently costs $1.
Your bid sets your rank
Projects are ordered by the amount paid, highest first. Pay more than the project above you and you take its place. There is no queue, no review, and no editorial judgement — the ordering is nothing but the numbers.
Rank is never stored. It is worked out from the standing prices every time the page is drawn, so the board cannot drift out of step with what people actually paid.
A rank costs a dollar more than the one above
The minimum bid is $1. Beyond that, the price of any position is one dollar more than the project sitting above it. Amounts are whole dollars — cents would turn the board into a war of decimals.
If two bids for the same position arrive at the same moment, only one is accepted. The other is refused outright rather than both being charged for one spot.
Ranks change the moment payment settles
Nothing moves before the payment clears. Once it does, the new rank is live immediately — no delay, no approval step.
Your bid buys the position you paid for, not the right to keep it. Anyone can outbid you a minute later, and you will not be notified when they do.
No refunds
Bids are final. Being outbid is the product working as described, not a fault, and it is not grounds for a refund.
If you are charged but your rank does not appear, that is a fault — contact us and we will fix it or return the money.
Public GitHub repositories only
A submission has to resolve to a public repository on GitHub. The name, description, language and star count are read from GitHub rather than typed in, so a listing cannot claim more than the repository does.
A repository can only be listed once. Bidding again on a project you already hold raises its price; it never lowers it.
You can measure what a rank earns you
Every outbound link is counted before it forwards, and arrives carrying ?utm_source=starsbid. The click count on each row is what was actually sent, so the traffic is yours to verify in your own analytics.
No accounts
There is no sign-up and no API key. A bid needs a repository and a payment, nothing else. Payments are handled by Polar; card details never reach this site.
